I am the owner and director of Gemma Redmond Vintage - an online collection of designer and finely crafted vintage costume jewellery.
I established Gemma Redmond Vintage in late 2014, leaving my job as a Primary School Teacher to turn my love for collecting and researching vintage costume jewellery into a full time career.
I select my pieces for the way in which they evoke the time periods in which they were made; for the way in which they reflect the skill and characteristics of their designers; and for the way in which they can compliment one's personal style. I am passionate about encouraging others to celebrate the uniqueness of vintage costume jewellery by wearing it anytime and anywhere. Indeed, I write a blog extolling the virtues of wearing vintage pieces with contemporary fashion and aim to make vintage costume jewellery accessible to all.
I am thoroughly enjoying my new career path, putting to use my degree in History from the University of Manchester and summer school fashion business courses from Central St Martins and London College of Fashion. Excitingly, Gemma Redmond Vintage has been featured in publications in my locality, such as 'Lancashire Life', and within editorials in the national press, such as 'On the Rocks' magazine and 'Vintage Life' magazine. I have also provided jewellery for celebrity clients - BBC Strictly's Karen Hauer utilised my personal shopping service. I sourced a pair of vintage Christian Dior earrings for her to wear for her marriage to fellow dancer, Kevin Clifton, which was featured in Hello magazine. The famous shoe designer, Charlotte Dellal is also an owner of one of my Schiaparelli parures. I exhibit my jewellery at bridal shows, specialist vintage events, such as the Goodwood Revival and Clerkenwell Vintage Fashion Fair, and retail shows, such as the Country Living Fairs.
Alongside running Gemma Redmond Vintage, I am also a freelance writer, primarily focussing on vintage costume jewellery. I am still in the early stages of establishing myself within this field, but have just recently had two articles published in Vintage Life magazine.
