Ceramics have been part of my life, almost since birth. My father taught pottery and as a child I was given clay as a toy. For me, the transformation of what appears to be nothing more than mud into a thing of permanence and beauty seemed like magic. It has fascinated me ever since. This lead me to collecting from an early age. Where others collected medals and coins, I collected pots. By the age of Sixteen I had curated my first exhibition at Newcastle (upon Tyne’s) Laing Art Gallery, by 21 I had written my first book. I then, almost inevitably, became an antiques dealer. In 2003 I was approached by the BBC Antiques Roadshow, on which I have appeared as a Senior Valuer ever since. I am also an Ambassador for The Princes Regeneration Trust, which is one of HRH The Prince of Wales's Charities.
